Great service, but HOLY EXPENSIVE ($1,900 for FWD clutch job) I've had multiple vehicles serviced at Bob's Auto for many years (dating back to 2010 when I had a heater core replaced in my truck). Their prices always seemed high to me but the service was good and the location convenient so I continued to go them figuring the prices can't be that much higher. Fast forward to this week. My son's car starting having clutch issues. Took it Bob's and they said it needed the clutch replaced and they included the slave cylinder which wasn't failing but was looking pretty rough and probably would fail soon. The quote I got was $1900!!!!! The person I spoke with told me the book hours said a full day for the job (so 8 hours). That seems fair, clutches aren't hard to replace but it is a lot of work. But then I did the math. Called the local dealer, all the OEM parts needed (flywheel, clutch disk, pressure plate, bearings, slave, and fluids) came to less than $600. So even if Bob's was quoting me OEM parts (which I highly doubt since he said the flywheel was only $100, OEM price I got was $165) that's still $1,300 in labor for an 8 hour job. Factoring in taxes and some other fees, that's still north of $150/hr!!!! I spoke to another shop and they quoted me $965. The guy I spoke to at a third shop I called almost choked when I told him I had been quoted $1900. His exact words when he recovered were "I've never heard of a $1,900 clutch job". Probably needless to say, I took the car elsewhere. It's sad really, because again the service is good and I'm willing to pay a premium, but not that much premium.
Thank you for your review Alyssa! We definitely understand that we are not at the low end of the spectrum, for prices, as we pride ourselves on our great customer service and reliable work. Just like you said, for quality work you can expect a premium for many things. However, our labor rate is not $150/hour and we definitely want to stay competitive with the local shops in our area. Next time, if you end up getting a quote from another dealer, please bring it over and see what we can do for pricing! We are always willing to look things over and find the best solution especially for reasonable things such as this. We appreciate the feedback, as it only helps us grow as a business, and hope you still keep us in mind in the future.
