A cooling system fluid exchange is routine vehicle maintenance that should not be forgotten. The coolant in your vehicle circulates through the system to lubricate the water pump and protect your vehicle's engine from freezing and overheating. Over time that antifreeze will break down allowing corrosion and scale build-up to happen. What is a coolant flush? A coolant flush is a complete removal of fluid from the system and then adding new fluid back into the system. During a cooling system fluid exchange at Bob's Main Street Auto & Towing, a machine is used to completely flush and clean out the system of fluid, build-up, and debris. Some shops may only do a cooling system service which only drains the system and replaces the coolant. When that service is preformed, it only removes about 50% of the fluid and doesn't clean out the waste and debris. The timing belt is a very important component in the vehicles performance. The timing belt is a rubber belt that keeps your valves moving safely and your engine running. In some vehicles the timing belt may actually be a chain. Whether you have a timing chain or timing belt, they are both very important to the functioning of your vehicle. If a timing belt is warn out it may begin to slip and severe misfires will occur. There is no real clear sign that time timing belt is going bad. When the timing belt does fail, it is not gradual decline, it is a very sudden occurrence. When the timing belt does fail, the engine will immediately stop or lose significant power. If your vehicle does have the timing chain, it may make a lot of noise if it is loose. If the chain breaks, you will often hear the crack. We know how scary it can be when you pull your vehicle out from a parking spot and there is a puddle underneath the vehicle. Oil leaks can happen over time and may be a simple fix. The oil pressure light will come on along with the check engine light. This light typically comes on when your oil level is too low or there is not enough oil pressure, you may risk causing damage to your engine if you continue driving with this light illuminated.
