Why is my vehicle not holding coolant?

Why is my vehicle not holding coolant?

Coolant is very important when it comes to keeping the engine on your vehicle cool. There can be a few reasons on why your vehicle is losing coolant. It can be caused by a slightly cracked hose, a hole in the radiator or issues with the water pump. A faulty coolant cap can also cause your coolant to disappear. The cap helps control the pressure within the cooling system by redirecting the coolant into the overflow tank. When the cap goes bad, it releases the coolant at a quick rate to the overflow reservoir. If you feel you may have cooling system issues give us a call and we can inspect the cooling system

Why should car fluid be changed?

Why should car fluid be changed?

It's time for an oil change. Can you please check my other fluids? Yes, that is a great habit to get into. The fluid exchanges can keep it running better than ever. There are no warning lights or reminders when these fluid exchanges are due. Each manufacturer has its own fluid exchange intervals. A very common and inexpensive fluid change is your oil change, the life line of the engine. Transmission fluid should be changed every 50,000 miles to help prolong the life of the transmission. Coolant is what protects your engine. If the vehicle does not have the correct amount of coolant in it, it can cause the vehicle to overheat. This can cause expensive repairs to be needed to your engine. We recommend the coolant to be exchanged out every 4 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. Brakes; we need our vehicles to stop! Brake fluid is needed for your vehicle's brakes to stop. We recommend the ... read more

Cooling System Fluid Exchange

A cooling system fluid exchange is routine vehicle maintenance that should not be forgotten. The coolant in your vehicle circulates through the system to lubricate the water pump and protect your vehicle's engine from freezing and overheating. Over time that antifreeze will break down allowing corrosion and scale build-up to happen. What is a coolant flush?  A coolant flush is a complete removal of fluid from the system and then adding new fluid back into the system. During a cooling system fluid exchange at Bob's Main Street Auto & Towing, a machine is used to completely flush and clean out the system of fluid, build-up, and debris. Some shops may only do a cooling system service which only drains the system and replaces the coolant. When that service is preformed, it only removes about 50% of the fluid and doesn't clean out the waste and debris. Once the system is cleaned with our state of the art equipment from BG, BG additi ... read more
