Do I need to replace the belts on my vehicle?
The Importance of the Belts on Your Vehicle

We often get asked about when to replace car belts at our shop. Did you know your car might have more than one belt? Some cars have just one belt, but others have two: an accessory belt and a serpentine belt. Let’s break it down.
Serpentine Belt
The serpentine belt is a single belt that helps run different systems in your vehicle, like the power steering, air conditioning, water pump, and alternator. This belt usually lasts between 50,000 and 100,000 miles, depending on how and where you drive. Over time, the belt wears down from heat and friction, causing it to crack, fray, or split. When it gets old, it might start squealing or chirping, which means it’s not working right. If this belt breaks, you could lose power steering and your vehicle's battery might not charge, which can cause vehicle issues. So, it's important to replace the serpentine belt as recommended to avoid unexpected problems.
Accessory Belt
Not all cars have just a serpentine belt. Some also have an accessory belt, which runs some of the systems the serpentine belt would usually handle. Think of it like splitting the work between two belts. If your car has an accessory belt, make sure it gets checked regularly too.
